Response to call for evidence on equality law 2025

Stronger action is needed to tackle pay discrimination and enforcement of equality law
Date posted: 17 August 2025

UNISON response

Significant pay gaps persist for women, black and disabled workers across the UK.

Pay gap action plans covering gender, ethnicity and disability need to become mandatory, with stronger enforcement powers and resources for equality bodies. Practices such as outsourcing and insecure work arrangements worsens pay inequality for women who are low-paid or work in the care sector.

About the consultation

The 2025 call for evidence on equality law is part of the Government's wider “Make Work Pay” agenda and Employment Rights Bill reforms. The consultation sought evidence on issues such as pay discrimination, enforcement of equal pay laws, outsourcing and pay transparency.
