Our members rarely seek reward, but they deserve it

When people think about public services, they often picture the most visible roles. But every day, thousands of UNISON members working across health care, local government, schools, social care, policing and probation, higher education and community services and many more are making an extraordinary difference in our communities, often behind the scenes and too often without recognition.

Alongside their day jobs, many of these colleagues also give their time as UNISON representatives, stewards and workplace champions. They support members through difficult moments, stand up for fairness at work, improve health and safety, promote learning and equality, and help make workplaces stronger for everyone.

From housing officers and school staff to administrators, cleaners and customer service teams, these local service heroes keep services safe, compassionate and effective. They support people at their most vulnerable, hold services together in times of pressure, and bring care, professionalism and commitment to everything they do.

UNISON believes it is time to shine a light on this work and to celebrate the dedication, skill and impact of the people who deliver public services every day.

Our awards and recognition programme gives members the chance to nominate colleagues who go above and beyond, and to say thank you to the reps, champions and volunteers who make such a difference in our workplaces and communities.
