About us
UNISON is the largest union in the UK. We represent members working in a wide range of public services
UNISON is the public service union
UNISON represents and stands up for members working in public services. We bring together the voices of over 1.3 million workers, including those employed by private companies, public authorities, or in the community and voluntary sector.
As the largest union in the UK, UNISON has been successful in winning improvements in pay and working conditions.
We negotiate with employers on behalf of members on issues such as health and safety, pay, pensions, working hours and redundancies.
By talking to employers and negotiating agreements, we secure improvements in pay or working conditions when workers are unhappy.
If there is UNISON rep at work, they will be able to represent you if you are facing disciplinary action or if you have a grievance against you employer.
UNISON has a powerful voice when speaking to government and policy makers on national matters, such as protecting public services, employment rights, working conditions, housing policy and climate change.
We regularly produce evidence, such as surveys on burnout in the NHS, to pressure the government for policy changes.
As a member of UNISON, you’ll have the opportunity to make your voice heard and share your opinions and experiences with the union.
Campaigning is a vital part of our work. It is a way to raise awareness of issues, fight for employment rights and gather support for local, national and international issues. It can help persuade people to take a particular course of action or change their attitudes or opinions.
We provide campaign communications and design materials on this website or they can be delivered to your local branch, including information leaflets, presentations, images, slogans and posters.
We also offer training on campaigning to help branch officers plan and deliver campaigns and funding for branches which need it, from a number of resources.
