We negotiate with employers on issues such as health and safety, pay, pensions, working hours and redundancies to secure improvements in pay, policies or working conditions for our members. We actively campaign on the key issues that affect you most, both inside and outside the workplace.
Joining UNISON allows you to participate in changing your workplace for the better. You'll be joining the largest union in the UK with a team of professional officers trained to negotiate on your behalf for better pay and conditions. We also provide free legal advice and representation for work-related disputes, such as disciplinary hearings, and personal injury claims.

UNISON represents workers in a wide range of public services. From local councils, schools and libraries to the NHS, social care and the probation service. Our members are employed by private companies, public authorities or work in the community and voluntary sector.
As a member of UNISON, your are entitled to receive free advice, representation and legal assistance once you have been a member for four weeks. Like many other trade unions, our benefits and services are only available to current, fee paying members and are unable to offer representation to new joiners with employment issues that predate your joining date or occur in the first four weeks of your UNISON membership.

You can get involved by joining UNISON and growing the movement - the more members we have, the more influence we have when negotiating with employers and government on your behalf. You can more get involved in your workplace, participate in union campaigns and events or volunteer at your local branch. We provide free, professionally-run training for members who want to become UNISON activists and representatives.
