Welcome to UNISON Northern
We are a democratic union formed by members coming together to protect and improve the rights and interests of those who work in public services. We are dedicated to creating fair and inclusive workplaces, ensuring our members have a strong voice and representation.
Equality is at the heart of UNISON. We challenge discrimination and win quality in the workplace and beyond. Everyone shares responsibility for equality in UNISON.
Our equality work includes groups for members who experience particular types of prejudice and discrimination. These groups meet locally and nationally to discuss, campaign and organise around the specific issues that affect them.
The Northern Region has a proud tradition of supporting international issues and solidarity with workers in other countries.
We work with individual unions and global union federations to defend public services and fight against austerity around the world. We also have responsibility to defend human and trade union rights wherever they are under attack.
For a number of years in the Northern Region we have worked on some priority areas of practical solidarity. We have a really good record of success and have made a significant difference to those areas where we have concentrated our efforts. In order to continue this work we are asking all Branches to give some thought to international solidarity and make a financial commitment to supporting this appeal for international funding.
