UNISON Race Discrimination Inquiry report, 2024

This report examines how effectively the union supports members experiencing racism at work
Date posted: 16 December 2024

About the report

The inquiry found that Black members sometimes face barriers in obtaining support, legal advice and representation in race discrimination cases, and that awareness and consistent use of the union’s race discrimination protocol varies across regions.

Our report sets out recommendations to strengthen training, improve case management and legal support, increase awareness of procedures, and enhance the union’s organising structures to better challenge racism and support Black members in the workplace.

Background

The UNISON Race Discrimination Inquiry was established in September 2022 at the request of UNISON's National Black Members Committee.
