Standards for social worker employers in England
UNISON guide to the Local Government Association 'Standards for employers of social workers in England', which sets out what employers are expected to do to support their social workers
Date posted:
1 October 2022
UNISON strongly believes the standards should be mandatory. Until then, we have to work together with the stakeholder partners to promote the standards and pressurise employers to comply.
Expected standards include:
- regular allocation and review of your workload, and system to resolve overload;
- access to space for supervision, discussions, team meetings and confidential interviews with service users;
- a system to prevent violence, harassment and bullying;
- access to employee welfare services plus safe transport for fieldwork;
- supervision from a registered social worker;
- clear entitlement to CPD, and employer support to meet your professional registration.
