UNISON representatives at the NMC and officers from UNISON’s Professional Services Unit and Health Team have worked constructively since the summer to challenge the NMC and scrutinise their response to the report.
UNISON’s scrutiny:
- Welcomed the appointment of a head of culture transformation and three other roles, and the start of recruitment of an assistant director. It expects the NMC to embed the culture and support for existing Black staff to be able to progress their careers.
- Noted improvements in industrial relations between the NMC and the UNISON branch representing NMC staff. Engagement between the union and the NMC leadership has increased, leading to more frequent and open dialogue.
- Noted one of the most significant developments is the NMC’s commitment to signing UNISON’s anti-racism charter.
UNISON representatives and stewards at the NMC will continue to push for further improvements to the organisational culture.
