This one-day course will help you as a Branch Education Co-ordinator, or as part of a branch education team, to make the most of UNISON's unique programme of education and training for members and activists in your branch.

Education plays a key role in developing UNISON branches and members. In particular, education can help branches to develop and implement plans for achieving their own as well as overall UNISON aims and objectives in areas such as organising, recruitment, representing members, and achieving proportionality and fair representation.

Education helps branch officers, activists and members to realise their own potential and provides opportunities to become more involved in UNISON activity.

This is central to UNISON's development, particularly at branch level, and Branch Education Co-ordinators and others have a crucial role to play.

Education courses and workplace discussions enable members to:

  • gain skills, knowledge and confidence to become more involved;
  • build an organising union;
  • find out more about new issues so as to better represent the members;
  • create plans that will build workplace and branch organisation;
  • develop skills as union negotiators and representatives.

As well as providing members and activists with opportunities to gain skills and knowledge and build confidence, education events can be used to bring groups of members together around a common issue or to make meetings more interesting and participative by using our education methods instead of standard meetings procedures.
