Welcome to UNISON Yorks & Humberside
Every member in the region belongs to a branch – usually local, but sometime regional or national. It is the place where you can get access to help and advice and take part in the democracy of the union.
Did you know that people in workplaces with union reps statistically earn more, get more holidays, get better training and are less likely to be discriminated against?
UNISON relies on its members and their time to run the union. UNISON workplace representatives (reps), stewards and other activists are the most important link between the union and its members.
You don’t have to commit a lot of time, or be an expert to get more involved, a little time and a lot of enthusiasm are all that’s needed; give it a try, you’ll be amazed how much you get out of it.
UNISON offers a range of courses and short workshops that are free to members. From brushing up on computer skills, to professional development or finding out more about the union, learning through UNISON can help you develop your confidence, skills and knowledge.
Everyone is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect. The ability to live and work without prejudice is a fundamental right, regardless of your background, colour or sexual orientation.
One of UNISON’s main aims is to help workers fight for fairness and equality in the workplace and beyond. Challenging discrimination and winning equality is at the heart of everything UNISON does.
Besides the right not to be discriminated against or bullied, fair treatment also includes equal working conditions and pay.
