Properly funded fair pay is way to fix broken adult social care, says UNISON
Commenting on a report by the King’s Fund report published today (Wednesday) on how to fix the key problems facing adult social care, UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea said:
“Low pay and poor working conditions are to blame for the ongoing workforce crisis in social care, as this report highlights.
“The sector cannot deliver the quality support the public needs while turnover rates soar and morale plummets among staff.
“A fair pay agreement is the way to fix this broken service. The government’s funding pledge is a step in the right direction, but wages must rise quickly.
“Otherwise jobs will remain unfilled, piling more pressure on the NHS.”
