Woman at a march

Help achieve equality for women in the workplace

Making up two-thirds of its membership, women represent the majority of UNISON members, and are the majority workforce in the public sector. That means women form the largest voice in UNISON and lead the organisation in nearly every activity.

Our women’s group, organised and run by members, campaigns for equality in the workplace on issues that particularly affect them  like low pay, discrimination and harassment and for improvements to women’s rights in the workplace.

Those issues and others can then be raised at the annual National Women’s Conference and are worked on by the elected members of the women’s national committee. Our women members also work informally with trade unionists in other countries, sharing experiences and supporting each other’s activities.

As a member of UNISON, you have the support and guidance of thousands of other women members, who face the same workplace challenges as you. If you encounter issues such as the gender pay gap or denial of your maternity rights, UNISON can help you with practical information, support and legal advice.

In UNISON’s women members’ group, we turn shared challenges into real change – creating fairer workplaces and a more equal future for women everywhere
