Cost of living crisis support
The cost-of-living crisis has significantly affected people’s lives, especially UNISON members working in public sector industries whose wages have not risen in line with inflation.
Those on lower pay have been disproportionately affected by rising costs, exacerbating existing inequalities in the UK.
Facing hardship can be very difficult, but UNISON is here to help. Find out more about how the union is supporting members by providing financial support and advice.

What is a cost-of-living crisis?
A cost-of-living crisis occurs when the price of goods and services goes up disproportionately to people’s income, making it more difficult to make ends meet.
Inflation in the UK rose to 11.1% in 2022, and although it is now falling, wages for many UNISON members have not kept pace.
This means that many members are struggling to afford basic necessities, leading to financial stress and potential hardship.
How can UNISON help?
UNISON is committed to pay negotiation and bargaining to improve members’ wages and working conditions across the public services.
Our representatives engage in direct negotiations with employers at both national and local levels. Where informal agreements fail, UNISON is prepared to bargain and take industrial action, including strikes, to achieve their goals.
