Nasim Dumont-Namin wins UNISON’s Learning Initiative Award
Nasim Dumont-Namin has been awarded this year’s Learning Initiative Award at UNISON South West’s Get Active event, in recognition of her outstanding work as a Union Learning Representative (ULR).
A dedicated advocate for education and empowerment, Nasim has shown exceptional commitment to creating learning opportunities that respond directly to the needs of her fellow members. Through her creative and inclusive approach, she has helped to build a culture of continuous learning within her branch.
Nasim has developed and delivered a wide range of online sessions on workplace issues such as reasonable adjustments, hybrid working and flexible working arrangements. These practical and informative sessions have not only increased awareness but also helped members feel more confident in understanding their rights and navigating challenges at work.
One of her most successful initiatives was a Lunch and Learn session that drew over 50 registrations. By making learning more accessible during the working day, Nasim has brought professional development directly to members in a way that fits their lives.
She has also worked closely with the regional education team to ensure training offers remain up to date, relevant and open to all. Her collaborative approach has enhanced the branch’s learning programme and provided new opportunities for development, growth and confidence building.
UNISON South West regional secretary Kerry Baigent said:
“Nasim’s energy and commitment to education is exactly what this award is all about. She has used learning as a way to engage and empower our members and to strengthen our union.
“With plans already underway for new sessions on bullying, harassment and racism, Nasim continues to push the branch forward and demonstrate how learning is a powerful force for change.”
