Identifying the extent to which theatre support workers seek opportunities to become Operating Department Practitioners.

Invitation to take part in a focus group for theatre managers, operating department practitioners and operating department practitioner programme leads.

Introduction

The College of Operating Department Practitioners (CODP) and Unison, through funding from Health Education England (HEE), has commissioned Allied Health Solutions to identify the extent to which theatre support workers seek opportunities to become Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) and be a potential supply line to increase the number of ODPs. The project will include identification of the enablers and the barriers to achieving this. The project will take place from December 2020 with completion in November 2021.

Capturing your views

As part of this project, we are keen to capture your views on:

• Health Education Institutions interest in delivering programmes to develop theatre support workers 
• Placement challenges 
• Developing career pathways for theatre support workers  
• Access by providers to the apprenticeship levy for theatre support workers and funding for backfill 
• Extent to which these developments can be workplace led
