2026 UNISON Year of Green Activity

We can’t wait for a more convenient time - find out what we are doing and get involved

There are already huge plans being implemented to change workplaces and the services our members deliver to meet public services climate change commitments.  As with any workplace transformation, staff unions need to be consulted and at the table when the changes are discussed – our members delivering services are experts.

And climate change is important to UNISON and our members. Its impact on public services stretches across finances, public health, cost of living, education and skills, and almost all other areas of public policy.

The Year of Green Activity is our chance to highlight all our work to achieve net zero emissions and encourage you and your branch to actively get involved, make your voices heard and campaign for a just transition.

The Year of Green Activity will:

  • 1 highlight why climate matters to a public services trade union;
  • 2 showcase how members can get involved;
  • 3 increase the number of branch environmental officers across the union;
  • 4 encourage formal and informal network engagement on climate change, from awareness raising to political actions and training;

  • 5 showcase environmental work on branch agendas;
  • 6 increase the number of members signed up to receive the UNISON green newsletter.
