LGPS Champions

Volunteer in your branch to help members understand and engage with their local government pension scheme

Empower members to plan for their financial future

The LGPS is a large pension scheme covering millions of UNISON members. Proper representation and an informed membership ensures that scheme changes or governance decisions take place with everyones best interests in mind.

An LGPS Champion is a volunteer who works within their branch to help other UNISON members understand and engage with their pension scheme. They provide members with updates and information about the LGPS, signposting them to the correct resources. Some of their tasks may include:

  • distributing pension bulletins, updates or newsletters to members about LGPS changes;
  • being the first point of contact when people have a question;
  • organising short briefings about the scheme.

An LGPS Champion's focus is on representation and education, rather than offering detailed pension advice, so you won't be expected to be a pensions expert from day one, and training will be provided.

Join our team and help take the stress out of pensions for you and other members. To register your interest to become an LGPS Champion, contact you local branch.
