Help achieve equality for UNISON’s disabled members

Disabled members in UNISON help to achieve positive changes in the workplace that make a difference to the working lives of disabled people including improved accessibility, adjustments to work equipment or working hours, disability leave and by addressing discrimination.

They also ensure the voices of disabled members are listened to and acted on in our union, and they seek to influence positive changes for disabled people in wider society.

UNISON’s priorities on disability are led by the union’s own disabled members.

They recruit new members and encourage them to get involved beyond the disabled members group, in branch activity or in the wider union. Issues discussed in disabled members groups can be submitted to the national disabled members conference and other parts of the union’s democratic structure for debate.

UNISON is committed to increasing the representation and participation of disabled people in the union, so their experience is fully reflected in UNISON’s policy and practice.

Being involved in the UNISON disabled members group means having a voice, finding solidarity, and shaping change together...
