Local Government Reorganisation and English Devolution Branch Summit

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) and English Devolution is affecting local authorities across the South East. With the right support, the LGR and devolution process can potentially result in positive outcomes for workers, local authorities, and the public. But it is essential that councils are properly resourced throughout the process and service standards are maintained or improved.
This summit at UNISON Centre in Euston will bring together branch officers and workplace representatives from across the South East region to discuss the shared challenges brought by LGR and talk through the systematic and strategic responses needed to ensure members are protected throughout.
South East LGR and Devolution lead Ryan Slaughter will be presenting the region's step by step strategy and there will be input from national colleagues involved with UNISON's devolution working group.
We know that UNISON members are committed to ensuring high-quality public services, and there is genuine concern about the potential impact of reorganisation on day-to-day council services, particularly workforce capacity and retention. This is an opportunity for branches to gain more information about the process and timescales involved, the tasks we need to complete to respond, and the campaigning work we'll be undertaking to get the best possible outcomes in place.
All branches with local government members are invited to register up to two delegates to this LGR summit (if you are sending two, at least one must be a woman).
Refreshments and lunch will be provided. Branches will need to cover the cost of travel and subsistence expenses for their delegates via their normal expenses process.
The deadline to register and make access requests is 5pm on 22 May.
