Free distance learning
Members in East Midlands can access a range of learning and training opportunities
Free Level 2 distance learning
UNISON East Midlands is committed to supporting members’ learning and development. In addition to providing our own courses, we work with like-minded organisations to promote their free courses which we know will benefit members.
Due to changes in the way education is funded, it is not possible to offer one provider that can deliver across the whole of the East Midlands. Where you live will depend on the provider.
Members in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire
We are delighted to announce our new partnership with Nottingham College to promote their Distance Learning offer. A new website has been created specially for UNISON members to view all the course and to register.

Members in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire
Leicester College are able to offer a large number of free Level 2 qualifications. Courses range from 6-18 weeks and are certified by the TQUK and NCFE awarding bodies.
You can register through UNISON by following these steps:
- Step 1 – Have a look at the list of courses and choose one that you’d like to start with
- Step 2 – Check the college’s website for more detail and apply
- Step 3 – Let us know what you are doing and keep the details on your membership
Please note, that since the Education Budget for Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire has been devolved, Leicester College are unable to offer places to members living in these counties. Please note that if you live outside the East Midlands, in an area where education budgets are devolved, Leicester College may not be able to offer this training for free.
Whenever you undertake a course through UNISON, this is kept on your membership record (which you will very soon be able to review). As you are enrolling directly with the college this won’t be added unless you give us permission. Please complete this form if you are happy for us to do this.
