Only enough is enough
Understaffing in nursing and midwifery is taking its toll on colleagues and patients
Politicians make promises but nothing changes
Every report says the same: We don’t have enough staff, with enough time to provide patients with the care they need.
UNISON members are taking action
Healthcare providers are accountable by law for providing safe care. Too often they’re able to turn a blind eye and you’re left picking up the slack while no-one holds your organisation to account. By working together, our nursing family can hold NHS employers to account in tackling unsafe staffing levels.
Managing without safe or adequate staffing levels puts patients at risk and creates a poor working environment. Registered nurses, midwifes or nursing associates are bound to act in line with the NMC Code and raise concerns if they believe staffing levels are not safe.
This October and November, UNISON branches across the UK launched public campaigns to force action on safe staffing. By organising in hospitals and running local shift surveys, branches were able to record real staffing levels and collect data that can’t be ignored.
What can I do?
