Today is International Migrants Day and I want to take the opportunity to address the recent appalling immigration policy implemented by the Conservative government. I understand that this policy will have caused significant distress and uncertainty among our migrant worker members.

I want to reassure you that UNISON is your union and stands firmly with you, ready to provide the support and assistance you need during these challenging times.

I have just spent over 4 weeks in Musgrove Park Hospital where my husband Thomas was very poorly. He was cared for day and night by the most amazing NHS team. The doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, catering and facilities staff, many of whom were international workers, provided wonderful care and showed great kindness to us at our most vulnerable.

It is clear to me that the international workforce is keeping the NHS and social care sector alive and I am appalled by the way this Government speaks about migrant workers.

Finally, I want to emphasise the importance of our Migrant Workers Network. UNISON offers a strong community where you can connect with fellow migrant workers, share experiences, and support one another.

Remember, you are not alone, migrant workers have a home in UNISON. UNISON is your union. We will stand together, support each other, and work tirelessly to ensure that your rights are protected and that justice prevails.
