UNISON represents the employment needs of our members in councils and related public services. We promote and defend the rights of all workers across local government. We work to raise employment standards and promote best practice in partnership with local government employers.

Working together, we can tailor our services to members effectively and democratically. With our collective voice, we call for change on the big issues affecting your working life. This strengthens our work to improve pay and conditions, campaign to keep jobs and quality public services, ensure workplaces are safe and challenge discrimination.

We represent members employed or contracted by different organisations including:

• further education;
• the Care Quality Commission;
• the Food Standards Agency;
• social services.

• environmental health;
• further education, adult education and education support;
• housing;
• licensing and trading standards;
• planning and development;
• public health and safety;
• roads and transport;
