Our members work in not-for-profit organisations ranging from large national charities and housing associations to small grant-aided projects.
They deliver a wide range of public services, across all the devolved nations and legislative frameworks. By working and campaigning together in UNISON, third and not-for-profit sector workers achieve more.
With our collective voice, we call for change on the big issues affecting the working lives of our members. We work to raise employment standards and promote best practice with national, regional and local employers. And we campaign for the public services our members and our communities need. This includes campaigning for better funding for charities delivering public services, stopping violence against housing association workers, and more.
We negotiate on behalf of members and bargain for better working conditions and fair pay. For example, in early 2026, UNISON helped secure improved pay offers at the National Coal Mining Museum near Wakefield in West Yorkshire and staff working for mental health charity Second Step, based in South West England.
We also provide expert support when members need it and support the local rep in workplaces and our activists across the sector.
