Campaigning

Campaigns are a vital part of our work. We use them to defend workers’ rights and persuades people to take action

Campaigning changes attitudes

UNISON’s campaigns improve working lives, promote working rights and defend public services. They do this by gathering support from key decision makers and putting pressure on employers and government
  • 1 We work closely with sympathetic Members of Parliament and particularly closely with Labour MPs. MPs can put down early day motions and ask questions related to UNISON concerns and lobbies, such as those concerning public services, housing and trade union rights.
  • 2 Sometimes we can make our campaigns even more powerful by working with other organisations. This can strengthen our voice on key issues, like discrimination at work.
  • 3 Branches often work with local organisations on joint campaigns, for example on cuts to vital public services or privatisation. Nationally, we often work with other unions across an employer or sector on common issues like working conditions.
  • 4 We run several campaigns at once. And we provide campaign communications, funding and training to help our members and activists plan and deliver campaigns.
